Cosmetic dentures can be a life changing experience and requires many steps for preparation, physically and emotionally. As your primary dentist office in Marietta, GA, our staff understands the changes you are about to encounter. Our experienced team will take the time needed during your consultation to fully prepare you and offer professional advice to help you achieve the look that will bring your confident smile back. The first part of preparing for your cosmetic dentures is fully understanding what dentures are and how they work.

What are dentures?

Cosmetic dentures come in two forms- complete and partial. They are provided to patients who have missing teeth, and are created to replace them and the surrounding tissue area if needed. Complete dentures fully replace all missing teeth, whereas partial dentures replace specific missing teeth around the natural teeth that still remain in place. At J & J Dental, we specialize in providing both options to fit any patient’s needs. Our highly trained, professional Marietta dentist, Dr. John Bishara  takes pride in working hard to make sure you achieve the look you have always dreamed of during what can sometimes be a very emotional moment.

Set of Complete Dentures

Complete dentures also come in two forms depending on your gums. The first are conventional cosmetic dentures. These are dentures that are made after all of your teeth have been removed. After your gums have healed, you can expect to have your conventional dentures ready for placement after about 8 to 12 weeks. The second form of dentures are known asimmediate cosmetic dentures. Unlike conventional dentures, you do not need to wait until your gums heal to have them placed. They are prepared in advance and ready for placement as soon as your teeth are removed. These dentures allow the patient to feel more confident because they do not need to wait weeks without teeth. Though immediate dentures are appealing, they do require more adjusting during the healing process.

Partial Dentures / Valplast dentures

Partial dentures are used when one or more of your natural teeth remain around a missing tooth in your upper or lower jaw. They provide the support needed for your natural teeth that are still in place, to remain there without them repositioning, which could cause further irritation and misalignment. Common partial denturesconsist of one or two replacement teeth that are bound by a gum colored plastic band that is attached to metal framework for support.

Partial Dentures in Marietta Ga

At our Marietta Dental Office, we specialize in using partial dentures known as Valplast– a lighter and more flexible denture. Valplast dentures use advanced technology to provide a comfortable denture frame without the metal lining, which makes them lighter and more comfortable to wear. Unlike common partial dentures that are made with chrome metals and acrylic, Valplast dentures use a tough nylon to add support, but ensure comfort and flexibility. They are durable, comfortable to wear, and give you a more natural look, since they do not have the metal backings. In addition to the many benefits of our Valplast dentures, they are just as easy to remove and maintain on a daily basis.

How are dentures made?

1. Assessment and taking initial impressions: At J & J Dental, our experienced staff will take x-rays of your teeth and gum. Dr. Bishara will then consult with you to provide the best methods for you based on your individual situation. We will take a first set of impressions to send to our dental lab. The next stage, in most cases is that the technician will make a custom made tray to your individual model, this is to make a more accurate impression. This is necessary because while stock trays used to take the first impressions are only standard sizes, the custom trays are made to measure.

2. Bite Registration: During this appointment Dr. Bishara will take an impression with the custom trays that were made from the first impression. Dr. Bishara will then record your bite and jaw relation. This will determine where the teeth should be positioned. Last, we will go over teeth shades and sizes.

3. Try-In:  This appointment is where you try in your denture to make sure it fits by checking the bite, the position of teeth, and the overall appearance. This denture is not finished and it usually made with wax.

4. Fit/Final Stage: This could be several appointments depending on how the try-in went the first time. After all aspects have been covered, your final cast will be made and Dr. Bishara will go over the final adjustments with you when completed.

Will dentures make me look different?

Dentures, complete and partial, are made to resemble your natural jaw line and your natural teeth. They are customized to you and require several appointments to make sure you are satisfied with your new look upon completion. The purpose of dentures is to bring back your confident smile, so you can expect to achieve your natural, beautiful smile very soon.

Will I still be able to eat with my new dentures?

Of course! It may take a little time for you to get used to, but we are here to help provide support so you feel confident and comfortable every day both smiling and eating.
